When I worked for the Federal Government I knew deep down in my soul that this was not my path.
When I was on maternity leave for the second time we took a time out from our lives (which turned into THREE years!) and moved to Nelson British Columbia, a beautiful mountain community where I had always longed to be.
There I took time to turn inward and look deep into how I wanted my life to look.
One day I made a decision: I was going to create a life based on MY TERMS – I threw out the ‘rule book‘. I asked myself, if time, money, energy and others’ opinions and expectations (including my own!) did not matter, what would would it look like?
I literally went outside, turned my face to the mountain crested sky and raised my hands and declared my new terms out loud to the Universe.
And the reply? A vacuum, a clearing, an opening to new possibilities. The greatest story of ‘choose your own adventure’ EVER.
In the three years since that declaration I was laid off from the Federal Government (a daily universal request of mine, thanks for coming through!), I took Kundalini Teacher Training (a LONG awaited desire of mine), became an Eden Energy Medicine practitioner (another check off of my list), registered with the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition and started my Soul Shaker Coaching business. Phew.
This is a universal principle – take nature for example, water: it can be contained, but the moment you open the flood gates –
it roars out and expands. A fire: once it catches, it takes on a life of its own – it opens, dances and comes alive. It wants to move.
Your soul wants you to move and expand in the same way.
So here is a little practice for you – this works for all desires.
The small ones such as: I want to shower alone without my wee ones pounding at the door; and for the big ones: I want to build a completely new career.
Okay, here we go:
Right now pause for a moment, close your eyes, take a few long deep breaths, relax your shoulders, soften your jaw and your brow, have your feet planted on the floor, feel yourself breathe –
Now ask yourself: what is something I would like to change/start/create? What do I desire?
Don’t hesitate – first thing that comes to mind – say it out loud – or maybe in your head if your colleagues are sitting next to you 🙂 – then write it down.
Now ask yourself – why have I not created this before? What rules have I made up to contain this desire and put it on the shelf? What is the story I tell myself? I don’t have enough time? I don’t have enough money? What would others’ think?
Don’t over think it – let the answers come to you and write that down too.
Then take a moment to reconfigure your beliefs – what shifts can I make in my thinking or doing to make space for what I truly desire?
Now here is the thing – what we truly desire does not always manifest in the way we expect it to, nor in the timing we might expect or plan for. My universal pleas to be laid off were answered, but it took about 18 months. In the meantime, I held the vision and I trusted completely that it would all work out.
Leading the life you want and truly fulfilling your soul’s desires is an active practice in faith, patience and perseverance. But it is so worth it if you truly want to make a spectacular life. And who wouldn’t want that?
So what are you waiting for? It is time to chose your own adventure.
